This song was inspired by the Hero’s Journey, which is a common arc for main characters in fantasy and science fiction. We are all the main character in our own lives. Sometimes we feel like there should be something more. Mentors comes into our lives through people like our grandparents, parents, siblings, friends, teachers, co-workers, or even strangers. Sometimes they leave us and we feel lost as we try to face the antagonists in our lives (whether it is a person or the inner voices we hear in our heads). We all have doubts as we face the hard times, but hopefully in the end, we are a little wiser and have made this world a better place. I would like to thank Scott Foster Harris for singing on the track.
1st Verse
I saw my soul beside me, getting out of my way
There wasn’t more before me, in the present day
You came along from nowhere, through the broken skies
I know I can’t control this story, can I trust your eyes
And I know
That I cannot stay
And I know
There’s no other way
My home I’ll
Never see again
A childhood memory I recall
Will this be my end
2nd Verse
And as I close my eyes, I can hear your voice
I won’t be fooled by your song, as I mourn my choice
Throughout my pain and misery, you just laughed and lied
My mind is now the helpless victim, in the guise you hide
And you knew
That it would be me
And you knew
My fog of mystery
Running I’m
In the darkest night
Corrupted by these unknown horrors
What is wrong from right
3rd Verse
And I’m on my way
It’s not another day
I need your mighty hand
To carry me through this void
My sleep it sinks me
The pain and fear of your face
My tainted blood
How can I trust myself now
To carry on
4th Verse
And I’m on my way
It’s my price to pay
I’m almost there
The legends have been all true
Why would it be me
Pride’s rushing in with my vain
The trials I’ve failed
The dying screams I’ve foreseen
Behind your veil
Bridge
It is mine to bear
I can’t remember
My mind is lost in the clouds
The light is dim in my eyes
How can I ever survive
When can I ever be free again
No
Guitar Solo
Ending
And as I lie there sleeping, my back’s against the wall
And as you sit there weeping, was it my tragic fall
